After discovering a” severe loss” over government-backed insulation methods, MPs have urged the Serious Fraud Office to launch an investigation.
The cross-party Public Accounts Committee ( PAC ) discovered that more than 30 000 homes had been damaged as a result of errors made in a new 34-page report by ECO4 and the Great British Insulation Scheme ( GBIS ).
According to estimates, the majority of the ECO installed off until mid-January 2025 has significant issues that need to be addressed.

Separately, the MPs were informed that 38 installers had been suspended, accounting for 81 % of the market for exterior wall insulation.
22 were reinstated after pledging to repair their jobs, according to the document.
The PAC warned that “many homes have not yet claimed on offers in big figures. “
However, iƫ stated thαt some business managers αre closing αnd rȩsuming their cσmpanies to avoid being held responsible for the cleanup process, and not αll installers dσ so.
In response, the MPs have demanded that the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero ( DESNZ ) confirm that it is “working with Companies House and the Insolvency Service to reduce the risk of incompetent and dishonest company directors closing and restarting their businesses. “
As part of a strengthened supervision of subcontractors, strength suppliers are now reportedly conducting additional desk-based and site checks.
The committee expressed concern that the initial builders and maintain providers will be able to handle promises of a magnitude greater than £250, 000 and that it was informed of cases involving damages that had been reported.
PAC head Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown stated:” Potentially hundreds of people are now living in homes where health and safety risks exist, and despite government protests, we have nowhere near enough guarantee that they are not financially exposed to costly bills to restore the incorrect works. “

The” Find and Fix” program of audits, which are offered to those homes where external wall insulation was installed under ECO4 or GBIS, is being coordinated with DESNZ.
