The prospect of a BCP ( Border Control Post ) into Europe at the end of the year is the focus of a campaign to get UK breeders to relaunch themselves in the EU and global markets at EuroTier, the world’s largest indoor livestock exhibition, being held 12-15 November 2024 in Hannover, Germany.
Following a regular and effective presence at the event, there will once more be a joint British Livestock stand in the main Breeding &, Livestock Hall ( Hall 11 ), supported by cattle, sheep, and pig societies along with breeding ( A I &, ET ) and other related businesses. American farming and breeding organizations can promote themselves on a global scale with the help of EuroTier, which is held every two years and has 150, 000 plus visitors and over 2,300 exhibitors, half of whom are worldwide.
The absence of life breeding stock on the Calais and Hook of Holland roads as a result of Brexit was a regrettable side effect. The trade of premium cattle from the UK has been greatly impacted by this. Some were able to travel the long distance via Eire, but the price and time were expensive, and even this was stopped when BTV started to air in November 2023.
” However, owing to huge effort and extended discussions led by Mr John Royle, NFU Chief Livestock Adviser, and people within the market, there is light at the end of the transport hole! According to Rob Grinnall, consultant to the UK Export Certification Partnership ( UKECP), John has worked tirelessly to agree and work on the construction of a Border Control Post (BCP ) at Hook, which will allow the movement of sheep and cattle from the UK to the EU via Stena shipping.
The animal center’s design is complete, and a BCP application for ungulates and ruminants is being submitted. After six years of problems, this will make the Union and beyond accessible, and we anticipate a sizable desire for livestock from buyers who have been resentful that this BCP is not available.
The upcoming British Livestock Stand at EuroTier ( stand 11F12 ) is anticipated to serve as a timely springboard for the relaunch of British-bred livestock exports in 2025 and beyond.
