About SHAKE:
Stir is a consortium-based initiative led by Rothamsted Research that brings up authorities from Rothamsted Research, Cranfield University, University College London and the University of Hertfordshire. Through the provision of skilled care and advice sourced from the well-known consortium and its connected network of mentors, the program aims to close the gap in business development between earlier start-up stages and investable ventures.
The Societe Generale UK Foundation provided the initial 4 Groups with original money, and then Beeches Capital, Lawes Agricultural Trust, and The Novo Nordisk Foundation are the three additional traders who have joined them to help Stir 2024 – Climate Change Cohort 5.
Stir was chosen as the 2024 throttle of the year, has supported over 60 ventures, and has managed to establish a portfolio of 11 profile ventures, which have all raised over £16 million in seed funding since its launch in 2020.
Recent colleagues include Adamo Foods, EcoNomad, Entio, Glaia, The Great Pulse Co, PheroSyn, SugarOx, Tumblebug and ResurrectBio.
Here’s what some of the latest Batch members have to say:
Stir stands head and shoulders above the competition because of the ongoing mentoring it provides over a long period, typically a year, and the fact that this occurs at such an early stage of a company’s growth. It’s the ideal amount of time and the help is tailored to the company’s requirements”, Dr Mary Ellis, CEO epf PheroSyn
One of the early-stage initiatives that helped Adamo Foods receive primary financial support was” SHAKE.” It also provided valuable advice on how to be more economical when raising money, which was in addition to the mentoring aspects of SHAKE. Participating in SHAKE even directly contributed to the business becoming one of the first buyers, which supported the company as an investment opportunity, according to Pierre Dupuis, CEO and founder of Adamo Foods.
