BBSRC is investing £24.1M to provide postgraduate training to support the UK’s bio-economy. Applications should be carefully led by a non-academic organization working in partnership with a UK research organization that will serve as the grant’s offer holder.
Hosting a PhD pupil offers UK firms access to cutting-edge study, helping to drive development and address industry-specific problems. It’s a cost-effective way to boost R&, D when supported by funding such as this. Collaborating with universities enhances industry-university relationships, provides access to resources, and helps build future skills. By supporting Ph projects, businesses improve their standing, remain globally competitive, and get personalized solutions to their special needs.
Through: ( i ) This funding opportunity aims to promote a high standard of collaborative research training:
- delivering world-class graduate analysis
- developing the depth of biotech competence needed for societal and economic development in the future
- preparing students for a variety of job options
- supporting a different graduate community, which includes addressing places of underrepresentation
Projects
These creative jobs should have the following characteristics:
- outstanding research: a hard, sustainable and accurately possible doctoral project that stimulates excellent research, providing tangible benefits to all partners through a genuinely collaborative approach
- a high-quality teaching environment: Having access to distinct but comparable high-quality training environments throughout the partnership encourages collaboration and encourages students to develop book skills and expertise
- a target on the student experience: partners may enhance the integral training experience by providing students with co-supervised instruction, enabling the student to better understand their research impact and receive support throughout their entire research journey.
Project partner direct companies
Organizations that are typically not eligible for funding under the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council ( BBSRC ) should strategically lead this funding opportunity. This organization may submit the application or be the training grant holder, but they will serve as the application’s direct project partner.
Organizations that are eligible for BBSRC funding but do not provide the principal base ( host ) for students during the award may also take this funding opportunity.
BBSRC will fund 100 % of the full economic cost ( FEC ). However, an extra 20 % of the total price is to be supplied by the head venture partner if successful. The second group, which will begin in October 2026, will support 185 studentships totaling three in a row.
Key Dates
A notification of intent ( NOI ) must be submitted by the 17th of December 2024 at 4: 00pm. Programs that are submitted without a prior warning of purpose will get rejected.
Candidates must support at least 5 studentships per month, which is equivalent to 15 studentships per year throughout the award’s lives. BBSRC will fund 100 % of the full economic cost ( FEC ). However, an extra 20 % of the overall cost is to be supplied by the prospect Venture Partner if successful.
Effective applicants will receive more funding through a Versatile Fund from BBSRC. This finance can be used to help a range of activities, such as abilities development, networking building, or addressing EDI difficulties.
