A partnership with Viasat was made possible by Creative 5, a provider of cross satellite-to-ground IoT communication solutions, today to demonstrate a prototype of a bright forestry monitoring system. At Les 2026, the answer will be demonstrated to address pressing connectivity issues in rural areas.
The engagement addresses persistent obstacles to the implementation of the IoT globally, particularly in remote areas with weak infrastructure and minimal power supply. The system enables products to carefully switch between communication lines for maximum reliability by incorporating Viasat’s Narrowband Non-Terrestrial Network ( NB-NTN) satellite features with LoRaWAN, BLE Mesh, and exclusive network architectures.
Taiwan field-tested
The Taiwanese National Ilan University ( NIU)’s Smart Forestry Monitoring Program is currently using the systems. The program makes use of solar energy and an ultra-low-power architecture in this infrastructure-limited setting to allow long-term detecting without the need for regular maintenance.
The NIU implementation validated the following critical capabilities:
- Steady environmental surveillance of forest microclimate and health conditions in real time.
- Hazarḑ Prȩvention: Early warning systems for risk indicators σf wildfires.
- Resilient connectivity: Regardless of the limitations of the earth network, data transmission is reliable.
