Apple’s years-long 5G router job may ultimately transfer in 2025

2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year for the phone. Apple might release a new model with a different design philosophy, upgrade the iPhone SE, and maybe add a new chip to those two phones. The slender phone 17 and the phone SE 4 may have 5G modems, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s X article.

” Apple is accelerating its shift away from rely on Qualcomm”, Kuo wrote. ” In 2025, two new iPhone models will ditch Qualcomm’s 5G chips and adopt Apple’s in-house 5G chips: the iPhone SE4 ( 1Q25 ) and the ultra-slim iPhone 17 ( 3Q25 )”. Why only those two designs? In order to properly test the router on a huge scale without including it in every new iPhone, The SE and phone 17 Slim will likely be much less common than other 2025 types (iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max ), but any problems will be easier to handle.

Okay, most users do n’t really care about the modem the iPhone has, only that it works. However, it’s important because, just five years ago, Apple lastly appears to be receiving a reward from its$ 2.5 billion purchase of Intel’s modem business. Studies claim that the job has had its issues since the purchase, and there was even a statement last year that Apple finally gave up. However, it appears to be happening eventually.

Qualcomm’s computers work well, so why would Apple yet care making its own? Apple has a history of ensuring that its product development is fully under its control, and it can do so by creating its own modem that will fit its desired specifications simply and stop making modifications to the iPhone’s design for a Qualcomm modem. Additionally, it’s certainly less expensive to use internal components than to license them from another business.
