Wiltshire Council has appointed civil engineering firm MJ Church to serve as the M4 Junction 17 enhancement scheme’s first contractor.
After what it claimed was a” complete” procurement process, the government confirmed the visit yesterday.
The Department for Transport ( DfT ) will provide 85 % of the project’s funding, and the council will provide 15 % of the project’s cost, which is estimated to be around £31 million.
According to the government, building is expected to begin in springtime 2027 and next roughly a season.
In its early company role part, MJ Church may provide comprehensive construction cost estimates to support the full business case, as well as request on buildability, program, and cost planning.
In springtime 2024, Wiltshire Council received DfT approval for an outline business case, and it has since been developing extensive proposals.
In the fall of 2026, the whole company circumstance will be submitted.
The committee stated that it would start the development phase under the same contract if the DfT approved it and reached an agreement on building costs.

He said,” A specialist is needed at this stage to develop our company case before we can start building if money is approved by DfT,” he said.
The £103 million-turnover company will use its expertise from the A350 Chippenham dualling initiative, which is also being conducted in Wiltshire, according to Claire Coetzee, director of civil engineering at MJ Church.
