In a shift aimed at tasks that have already committed to the older contracts, JCT extended exposure to the withdrawn 2016 agreement set until 2026.
The JCT 2016 Edition, according to the standard-setting system, was no longer relevant and was withdrawn on March 31, 2026.
For best training and lawful compliance, it is advised that people switch to deals from the JCT 2024 Edition as soon as possible.
But, JCT claimed that some tasks had begun or were about to begin on JCT 2016 deals. It stated that this would impact level two and tier three supply chain companies, who would have to continue using those work under the 2016 model.
Contractor stated that agreements from the 2016 version may be effective until December 2026 to support that changeover.
While stocks next, digital access will be available, with physical copies remaining.
JCT Construct members can start new agreements from 2016 templates or from record 2016 contracts during the intermediate phase.
Items to check before publishing: the statement does not specify tier two or tier three, nor does it specify why those projects must continue using the 2016 types. Because this is a agreements release rather than a job announcement, no clients, architects, or project information were provided.
