NIO has been conducting this battery swapping trial for a number of years, and it has been an intriguing ongoing investigation into how much people favor group swapping over fast charging, how attached people are to their EV batteries, and what makes the most economic sense. But it’s now going into even more information, and customers like it.

People could already purchase a NIO car and rent or lease the battery inside the vehicle, according to NIO’s “battery as a service” ( BaaS ) option. That could reduce a NIO’s initial cost by up to$ 10, 000. However, the company changed their position to allow the NIO owner to purchase the battery if they decided at some point that they wanted to own it ( or batteries, to use appropriate terminology for most of their cases ) and pay the difference in money.

NIO claims that more than 70 % of its car buyers have chosen the power leasing option since providing this option! Qin Lihong, the co-founder and chairman of Nio, gave this fascinating piece of information now at the Chengdu Motor Show.

Obviously, some of those NIO buyers, or at least the majority of them, will always choose to sell their car’s battery. But, just given users the choice was enough to get more of them to lease their automobiles ‘ chargers. The problem, which I’m sure many of you are already asking about, is that we do n’t know how many were leasing the batteries before! However, the statement made the point that significantly more people are, and that a 70 % + is a pretty amazing percentage that demonstrates what consumers currently prefer.

Another aspect of this: No one else is offering this, as far as I’m conscious. One would assume that many other Electric buyers would want the same option if far more than half of NIO’s buyers do so! I sure would n’t mind it. One may assume that NIO’s positioning in this way may help to bring in revenue. NIO is, of course, in the unique position of leading for several years in power switching, a company that is also unique in the sector.

I’m now completely clear on whether or not EV battery swapping will be used in the future and whether or not it did. I believe that offering this service and offering versatile battery rent will become more prevalent. Perhaps not in the US, where one would need to put their homes on the market, where housing thickness is much lower, and where private ownership is more important. But in other areas, I see this growing. If NIO decided to enter the market one moment, even in the US, I’d wager on its success here as well.

The argument is made in opposition to the claim that batteries are becoming less and less useful as power rental and swapping become less effective. Anyway, I think it’s important enough, and NIO’s statistics seem to show that. What do you think?
